What do they have in common?
Well, they’re both coming to town, they both have a deadline to meet and they both have a naughty list!
And while Santa has a gazillion elves to make sure things get done, the FCC takes a different tactic for enforcing their narrowband mandate: fines.
If you still need to do something about complying with the FCC, then just keep reading.
IF YOUR EQUIPMENT IS OLDER…
And by that, I mean if any of your radio equipment was purchased BEFORE 1997, then you’ll want to sit up and take notice. Because the narrowbanding mandate will be upon us before you know it–just like the Christmas season does every year. Since time is of the essence and there’s much to do, our Narrowbanding FAQs web page is the best place to start. Our whole staff is trained to help. Rest assured that we’re with you every step of the way, so call us if you feel overwhelmed or when you’re ready for the next step. Watch this short video to get an idea about what you’re facing.
IF YOUR EQUIPMENT IS MORE RECENT…
And by that, I mean if your equipment was purchased in 1997 or later, you still need to take notice. Because even though your equipment is current, there are still things that need to be done before you can rest–again, like Santa. Two main things, really:
- update your FCC license
- schedule a time to have your equipment narrowbanded
UPDATE YOUR FCC LICENSE
Start by revising your license to include the narrowbanding emission. That’s just fancy talk for telling the FCC you’ll be in compliance on January 1, 2013. Download this form, fill it in, fax it to our office nearest you. We’ll call you to discuss what your next step is.
PLEASE NOTE: Licenses are good for 10 years and then renewed. The FCC will send out a notice about 6 months before it is set to expire. ***WARNING*** There have always been disreputable licensing companies that send out very official-looking letters stating that your license is about to expire and that you should pay them to renew it. And due to the upcoming mandatory license changes, these companies are ramping up their efforts. A simple phone call to our consultants for a free verification could save you money.
WHY YOU SHOULDN’T WAIT ANY LONGER
- EVERYBODY in the United States who is operating in the VHF and UHF frequency range has to do this. Did you catch that: EVERYBODY. That means the FCC will be inundated with license applications to process. Act now. Seriously.
- Since radio frequency equipment is highly technical, unexpected problems need to be, um, expected. In a perfect world, flowers grow and butterflies fly and everybody stands happily in line to get radios programmed. But guess what? Nope. No perfect world here. Do yourself and your company a favor. Contact us to schedule the programming as soon as you can.
- Lastly, the FCC has continued to stand their ground against allowing licensees any grace period and will assess a fine for each instance of non-compliance.
Still a little confusing? Then give us a call. We’re here to help.
And, if you’re wondering, yes, even Santa will have to be in compliance, too, if he wants to fly over the U.S. air space.
